A festive concert on the occasion of Fatherland Defender’s Day

On February 20, 2008 the Cultural Center of GlavUpDK traditionally hosted a festive concert on the occasion of Fatherland Defender’s Day with participation of the accredited military attaches of foreign missions.

Ivan.I. Sergeyev, Director General of GlavUpDK opened the soiree and cordially welcomed the Great Patriotic War veterans and heads of military missions. Mr. Sergeyev noted that this Russian national holiday could be recognized as an international one since it symbolizes courage and love for the Motherland. The history of our country is full of examples showing courage and heroism of its defenders. Celebrating the holiday one should remember the priceless contribution the Soviet Army made to the defeat of nazism during the Second World War.

Addressing the heads of military missions Mr. Sergeyev paid special attention to the exceptional role that military diplomacy plays in strengthening stability in the world and extended wishes of peace, health, and happiness to the military men, veterans and their families.

A.V. Mironov, colonel general and A.P. Kadyshev, Hero of the U.S.S.R., rear admiral, both veterans of the Great Patriotic War welcomed the guests. They noted that this year marks the 90th anniversary of the Red Army. This memorable date symbolizes selfless service to the Motherland.

The soiree continued with a festive concert by the Alexandrov Russian Army Ensemble and a reception.

The solemn atmosphere of the soiree was strengthened by a unique exhibition by contemporary artists and Great Patriotic War veterans We Keep Faithful To This Memory set up in the hall of the Cultural Center.
